Roofing...

So, we knew when we purchased our house that the roof was going to be replaced. The roof was wood shake and had probably been on the house since it was built in 1980. No home owners insurance company wanted to insure us because of the fire hazard the wood roof caused. So as soon as basketball ended, Bryce started on the adventure of replacing the roof.

The first step (and the dirtiest step) was taking off all the old shingles.
Bryce's hands and legs after 1 day of work.
The second step was laying new OSB boards.
All this came off our roof.
Hard at work.
Many trips to Home Depot to buy OSB boards.
Dumping shingles from the roof into the trailer below.
After a long day's work.
More and more boards...
Nearly all the shingles are off!
A very dirty job!
Quick lunch break.
Taking a load to the dump.
The final step was laying all the new shingles.
Bryce showing our eager helpers what to do.
Lots and lots of helpers (namely Bryce's dad who came up here EVERY day), many (MANY) trips to Home Depot and 3 1/2 weeks later and we have a new roof! We've even officially been signed off by the city! Hurray! It was a long and exhausting job, but it's done (and for less than 1/3 of what it would've cost us to pay someone else to do it.)

Bring on the next project... THE YARD!

Congrats! I bet that's a relief. We're closing on our house this week. Should be signing the papers tomorrow.

I think it is so great that Bryce decided to do this very hard job himself! What a great dad he has to come and help him everyday! He saved you lots of money! Good job Bryce!
