what we've been up to...

So the last month or so has actually been pretty busy! Since Breckin's last check up we've had: 3 weeks of the flu, 1 anniversary, 2 weeks of Spring Break, our first sprinkler experience and 3 blood draws.

In exciting news Breckin has gained 2 lbs in the last month and we've been able to pick out some "words" he says regularly. He says "Hi dad", "yes" and "ye, ye" (bye, bye). He sometimes says "thanks" and it's really cute! Shortly after his last check up Breckin came down with the flu pretty bad. It started with a fever (103 at one point, but it came down immediately with medicine and didn't come back.) Then we moved on to a runny nose followed by a HORRIBLE cough (which is actually still lingering a little.) The cough was so bad that he'd sometimes end up throwing up from coughing so hard. It was miserable. He spent a good 3 days doing nothing much but sleeping. We cuddled a lot on the couch and stayed in our PJs. Right when Breckin was starting to feel a little better, I ended up getting sick, so we spent another week just laying around, watching tv and sleeping. By the third week of the sickness, Breckin was almost all the way better and I was probably 50%, but we still just hung around the house fighting off the stir craziness that was building!

We were both back to "normal" by the time Spring Break started, and a good thing too because we had BIG Spring Cleaning plans for those two weeks! We did have some fun too and some stress! The second week of Spring Break we took Breckin in for the blood work the doctor had ordered at his last appointment. We ended up getting a call from his regular doctor two days later telling us his platelets were "really low" and she was sure it was a lab error, but that we needed to take him back in right away for another blood draw. Those results we higher than the first, but still low, so she asked us to bring him in so she could see him. She also called Loma Linda (one of the great hospitals in our area) and talked to someone in their hematology department to get their opinion. So basically this is what we think is going on, normal platelets levels for Breckin would be 100,000. His first test was 35,000 and his second was 49,000. Loma Linda said that they would be "concerned" (like thinking cancer, leukemia, etc.) if his levels were under 20,000 and they also said that platelet levels can drop after a viral infection, so as long as his numbers keep going up it's probably from him being sick a few weeks ago. His doctor had us go back for another blood test the next day and those results were 54,000, so we're headed in the right direction and we'll go back in this week for another test. He isn't acting sick in the slightest, there's no fever, no bruising, no blood spots, so at this point we're pretty confidant everything is fine and he's still just bouncing back from the flu. I will say this... drawing blood from a willful 16 month old is NOT fun. Every tech we've seen has said the same thing "he's STRONG" - luckily Bryce was able to go to all these since he was on Spring Break, so he could do most of the restraining work. I don't know if I'd have been able to do it, to be honest!

We had to confine him a little while we worked in the garage. He did a great job of playing by himself so we could get lots of work done!

Bryce and I went to see the Mavericks play the Clippers on March 30th. It was my Christmas present! I was SO excited when the first thing we saw when we walked in was Dirk warming up!

Breckin also loves to dig, he's definitely a little boy!!
