So I took Breckin in for his 15 month check up a couple of weeks ago. Everything went well. He weighed in at 20 lbs. and 1 oz. and he measured 30 3/4 inches (we'll just say 31!) We saw a different doctor (within the same office) this time and she was talking to me about her concerns over his weight. She decided to send us to get some blood work done to test his lead and iron levels and make sure everything's normal and that's not affecting his weight. He is gaining steadily he's been in the same percentile since he was born, he's just low. I also explained that my husband's family is all really tall and really skinny, so hopefully he's just rockin' the Brimhall genes at this point.
She was also concerned about his lack of speaking. Apparently by 15 months he should be saying 3-4 words besides mama and dada. He used to say mama a lot (mostly when he was crying) and he now says dad all the time, but he doesn't say any else. She wants to send him to a speech therapist to be evaluated. I was a little hesitant about it and said I'd talk it over with my husband and discuss it at his next appointment. We just always assumed his talking would be like everything else (crawling, walking, etc.) no matter how much be pushed and pushed he would do it when he was good and ready, so we hadn't really been worried about it. I did talk to a friend who's a speech therapist and she gave me a couple of things to do with Breckin to work on his speech and she said she'd come over and work with him too if I wanted, so we'll see how things progress over the next few weeks.
Other than that, nothing too exciting on our end. Basketball is wrapping up, the team plays this Saturday for the Southern Section State Finals and then if they win they play next Saturday (in Sacramento) for the State Finals! I guess that would be pretty exciting! Bryce is keeping busy with school and basketball and we're hoping to have him around a little more once the season ends! Breckin is running all over the place and climbing on everything. He's figured out how to open all the doors in our house and he loves to feed himself with a spoon. It's still a pretty messy process, but he's getting better.
Alright, now the part you've all been waiting for. Here are pictures from the last couple of months! It feels good to get all caught up! Enjoy!
Breckin hanging out in the gym with his daddy.
He LOVES water and would've jumped right in if I'd let him.
One of the onesies I made for Bryce's birthday.
Our pathetic excuse for a Christmas tree! The room wasn't tall enough so we wouldn't put the top piece on!
Our Christmas village and train set.
Breckin had enough Christmas shopping this day!
Yea, a beautiful December day in Southern California!
Visiting Daddy for lunch. Breckin loves to chomp on baby carrots!
HHmmm, mac and cheese.
Remember when he wore this last year? What a difference a year can make!
He loves to write and color on anything and everything. Anything shaped like a pencil gets used as one.
Opening our stockings on Christmas Eve.
Notice Bryce's bald head? Yea, that wasn't on purpose!
A picture in our newly sodded front yard!
Yea, we finally have grass!
Yum! Breckin LOVES black beans!
Visiting in IL (this was day one of my bell's palsy experience.)
Breckin and his grandma.
Here's our Christmas tree right before we took it down.
Come back soon!
