A couple of weeks later I started having problems syncing my Fitbit to my computer. I even had to reinstall the software like 3-4 times. Slowly my battery started holding a charge for less and less time. I thought "man, this is surely because I wore it in the pool that one time" and I was kicking myself, because I wasn't really even able to use it. It got to the point were it wouldn't hold a charge for longer than 8 hours :( I was very sad and upset at the prospect of having to buy a new one, but I figured I'd email their help department and see if there was anything I could do to try and save my device.
I received a quick response (I think it was the next business day) apologizing for the trouble I was having and offering a few things I could do to try and troubleshoot the problems I was having. I followed their instructions and while it helped a little with the syncing problem, the battery still wouldn't hold a charge for very long. I emailed back explaining the results I'd had after attempting to fix the issues and thanked them for their help. I asked if there was anything else I could do to try and fix my device.
This time I didn't hear back for a couple of days and was pretty much planning on buying a new device when I received an email that said: "Thank you for your email and thank you so much for trying to troubleshoot with the device. At this point it does seem that your unit is defective. In order to send you out a complimentary replacement, can you please provide answers to the following" and they asked a bunch of questions like when and where we purchased the device, what our shipping address is and if we could provide a digital copy of our receipt. I was SHOCKED to say the least. I did not expect them to replace the device for what I'd assumed what my own fault, but I provided them the information they requested and my replacement Fitbit is scheduled to be delivered on Friday!
I'm excited to get back on the "healthy" train in a couple of days, not that I've been going nuts without my Fitbit, but it's easier for me when I can see the numbers in front of me everyday. I'm a planner, I need to be able to see that I can eat X number of calories today so I can pick and choose what I'll eat at each meal. I also need very specific goals, so if I know I need to burn this many more calories in the day, I can set about doing that. I need details, I love details! So hopefully in a month's time I'll be posting another Fitbit update telling how wonderful it's been going with my new device!
